CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE AND
HYPERTENSION MANAGEMENT CONSIDERATIONS
Cardiovascular diseases, e.g. diastolic dysfunction, are known to improve with optimization of blood pressure (systolic BP <120mmHg), using a combination of high dose ARBs or ACEIs and calcium channel blocker. Other considerations include statin therapy with a goal of LDL cholesterol <70 mg/dl; low dose thiazide diuretic; beta-blocker.“ (REFERENCE: Mayo Clinic Proc 2009;84:741-757. Primary and Secondary Prevention of CV Diseases).
In diabetics, cardiovascular diseases, e.g. diastolic dysfunction, are known to improve with aggressive optimization of blood pressure (systolic BP <115mmHg) using a combination of high dose ARB. Other considerations include statin therapy with a goal of LDL cholesterol <70 mg/dl; low dose thiazide diuretic; beta-blocker.” (REFERENCE: JAMA 2008;299(14): 1678-1689).
